Yumi Workforce
Our people are at the heart of everything we do. The strength of GBK lies in our people – the staff, crews, and teams who bring culture, knowledge, and commitment to every part of our work.
Together, we continue to walk alongside our communities, creating real opportunities and building a stronger future for the Endeavour and Torres Straits.
In 2025, our workforce reached a new level of stability. This gave us the chance to not only strengthen how we work together, but also to grow opportunities across our region.
Through our Community Development Program, community workcrews expanded to over 10 communities – a milestone that has delivered more local jobs, new skills, and meaningful pathways to long-term careers.
We also welcomed more staff into our Native Title Services team, ensuring PBCs and Traditional Owners receive stronger, more hands-on support. This growth reflects our ongoing promise: to stand with our clients, listen to their needs, and build solutions together.
At GBK, we believe in growing our own. This means investing in local people, skills, and futures. In 2025, training and professional development reached $105,132, giving our staff access to learning that strengthens both their individual journeys and our collective capacity.
Our commitment to people is more than words – it’s backed by action. In 2025, staff wages grew from 36% of total expenses in 2024 to 40%, showing our deliberate choice to put resources where they matter most.
This increase reflects our focus on strengthening client-contact and technical roles – the positions that connect directly with communities, keep services running, and ensure our support is strong on the ground.
Investing in YUMI: Growing Our Own
Where specialist knowledge is needed, we continue to draw on trusted consultants, particularly in areas such as legal advice, anthropology, facilitation, and IT.
Importantly, these costs remained steady in 2025, with consultancy at $513,814 (down slightly from $516,555 in 2024) and legal fees at $1,159,392 (down from $1,171,033 in 2024).
By carefully balancing internal investment with targeted external expertise, GBK ensures our communities benefit from both the strength of our own people and the highest levels of professional support.
Consultants and Contracting
Together, 2024-2025 has shown us that when we invest in our people, we invest in our future.
