Finalising active native title claims
Supporting the progression and resolution of active native title claims in accordance with Federal Court timetables.
GBK has continued to work with external legal representatives and claims groups to progress native title applications in our region.
A significant achievement was the determination by consent of the Warral & Ului claim in October 2024, recognising the native title rights of the Badulgal and Mualgal Peoples.
Following this outcome, the Badu Ar Mua Migi Lagal RNTBC successfully amended its rule book to be appointed as Trustee.

GBK also continues to support the Torres Strait Regional Sea Claim Part B and Part C, as well as the Kaurareg sea and island claims. These claims involve complex overlapping interests, requiring careful negotiation and culturally appropriate consultation.
Naghir Native Title Research Project
GBK has embarked on a native title research project for Naghir and surrounding islands, the last major unclaimed area in our region.
An independent consultant anthropologist has been engaged to undertake native title connection research and an information session was held in Cairns with people who claim to hold native title in this area.
